چکیده

Background: Thrombocytosis is commonly associated with malignant disease and has recently been suggested to be a poor prognostic indicator in patients with lung cancer and gynecological cancers. The prevalence of thrombocytosis in patients with gastric cancer was reviewed, and its association with poor prognosis was investigated. Methods: Platelet count (PLT) and hemoglobin concentrations (Hb) were reviewed in 369 consecutive patients with histologically verified gastric cancer from 1994 to 2000. Differences between categories were analyzed with analysis of variance, and survival was compared by using the log-rank test on the Kaplan-Meier life table. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to evaluate whether thrombocytosis is an independent prognostic marker. Results: Thrombocytosis was found in 42 patients, and anemia was found in 200 patients. PLT was negatively correlated with Hb. Mean PLT was significantly increased in patients with noncurative operations. There was a positive correlation between the depth of tumor invasion and PLT. Oneand 3-year survival expectancies in patients with or without thrombocytosis were 52.4% and 23.4% and 85.7% and 72.9%, respectively. PLT was identified as an independent prognostic factor after lymph node metastasis and depth of tumor invasion. Conclusions: Thrombocytosis is an independent prognostic indicator of survival in patients with gastric cancer.

HER-2/neu Marker Examination using Immunohistochemical Method in Patients Suffering from Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Gastric adenocarcinoma is the second leading cause of death due to cancer in the world and in advanced stages the prognosis is poor with current therapies. Over-expression of HER-2/neu has been seen in several cancers such as gastric cancer and its expression is associated with poor prognosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the over-expression of HER-2/neu in gastric biopsy samples of pat...

The miR526b-5p-Related Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms, rs72618599, Located in 3\'-UTR of TCF3 Gene, is Associated with the Risk of Breast and Gastric Cancers

Introduction: Single nucleotide polymorphisms result in dysregulation of the proto-oncogene TCF3 gene, which is associated with the development, metastasis, and chemoresistance of different malignancies. Methods: GSE10810 microarray dataset and GEPIA2 online software were used to find differentially expressed genes and the TCF3 status in breast cancer (BC) and gastric cancer (GC), respectively....

Evaluation of PDL-1 Protein Expression in Tumor Tissues of Patients with Gasteric Cancer

Background and Objective: Nowadays, it has been proven that the immune system plays a major role in the occurrence or treatment of some cancers. The PDL-1 proteins are among the components of the immune system, which are expressed in different body cells, including B cells and T cells. In this regard, the present study was conducted to determine the frequency of PDL-1 protein expression and its...

Prognostic Significance of Initial Platelet Counts and Fibrinogen Level in Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Thrombocytosis and coagulation systems activation are commonly associated with disease progression and are suggested poor prognostic factors in patients with malignancies. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and prognostic significance of thrombocytosis and elevated fibrinogen levels in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Initial platelet counts and fibrinogen ...
